Inventory Control Specialist
Duration: 08 months Contract
Pay Range: $26-$36/Hr
Job Description:
A Distribution and Inventory Specialist manages and coordinates inventory and logistics to ensure efficient and accurate product flow from acquisition to delivery. This professional ensures inventory records are accurate, tracks shipments, orders supply as needed and works to improve overall supply chain efficiency.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Inventory management:
Assist in developing and instituting the inventory and distribution center for Public Works.
Conduct regular physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and audits, then reconcile them with the data in the inventory management system.
Track and document all inventory changes, including new shipments, returns, and damages.
Monitor inventory levels to forecast future needs, place restock orders and prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in stock records by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Organize and maintain the warehouse and inventory storage space to maximize efficiency and ensure safety and traceability.
Distribution and logistics:
Receive, inspect, and log incoming shipments for accuracy against purchase orders.
Prepare and process outgoing shipments by picking, packing, and verifying orders before loading them onto vehicles.
Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to manage schedules, track deliveries, and resolve any logistical issues.
Oversee the loading and unloading of deliveries, including the safe operation of equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks.
Maintain all related paperwork and documentation, such as bills of lading and shipping tickets.
Operational support
Enter and manage inventory data using inventory management software.
Collaborate with other departments, such as purchasing, to optimize inventory levels and ensure smooth supply chain flow.
Identify opportunities for process improvement to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
Adhere to all Client’s safety, security, and quality standards during inventory and distribution tasks.
Required skills and qualifications:
Experience and education:
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field may be preferred or required for senior roles.
Experience:
1–3 years of experience in a warehouse, inventory, or logistics role.
Certifications: Certifications for operating warehouse equipment, like a forklift, are preferred.
Analytical skills:
The ability to analyze data and identify trends is crucial for making informed inventory decisions.
Problem-solving:
Must be able to quickly and effectively resolve issues like inventory discrepancies or shipping delays.
Attention to detail:
Accuracy is critical for maintaining correct inventory records.
Computer proficiency:
Experience with inventory management software, and MS Office (especially Excel) is essential.
Organizational skills:
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, and carriers.
Physical stamina:
The role may require long periods of standing and walking, as well as the ability to lift and move heavy objects.
