Instructor/Diabetes Educator University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine Job Title: Instructor/Diabetes Educator Position #00779627: Requisition #: 37929 Description
Instructor/Diabetes Educator position within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. This is a full-time role with responsibilities across clinics in Downtown Denver, Littleton, Parker, and Fort Collins, as well as the Children’s Hospital Colorado - North Campus location. The role supports patient-centered diabetes care within the MFM setting, including insulin initiation/adjustment, CGM education, and coordination with the care team.
Responsibilities
Provide individual education, nutritional and health assessments, counseling and teaching, patient-focused nutritional plans, and behavior change within the CDCES scope of practice.
Support the implementation of patient-centered insulin initiation and ongoing diabetes management orders as authorized by the MFM provider.
Perform CGM placement, education, and data interpretation to identify glycemic patterns and collaborate with the MFM care team on therapeutic adjustments.
Participate in diabetes program planning, delivery, and evaluation.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical notes in accordance with Maternal Fetal Medicine guidelines.
Participate in team and staff meetings to support service delivery and division goals.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and activities; practice in a manner that preserves privacy and confidentiality.
Ability to practice independently and demonstrate continuing education in diabetes management.
Provide services via telehealth and in person; bill for services accurately.
Collaborate with a team to support six MFM clinics with multiple educators and staff; participate in cross-site coverage as needed.
Hybrid schedule: 1-2 days per week at clinic locations and in-person meetings as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nutrition;
Certified Diabetes Educator and Dietitian
or
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider
required.
Three years of experience as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist in a clinical practice within the last five years (preferred).
Experience and training in OB/GYN or MFM preferred; knowledge of diabetes in pregnancy and prenatal care; insulin management, glucometers, and continuous glucose monitoring systems.
Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) preferred.
Computer skills: basic keyboarding, MS Office, EPIC knowledge.
Ability to maintain quality control standards, communicate effectively with physicians and staff, and manage time in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Ability to work within large, complex healthcare systems and maintain confidentiality; ability to interpret and document using proper medical terminology.
