Kaiser Permanente Job Summary Under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, performs a variety of MRI procedures and departmental support functions.

Responsibilities

Performs MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine and extremities on patients of all ages; adjusts scanning parameters for different patient body habitus; selects and modifies technical factors to enhance images; uses flare and SAT imaging techniques; determines appropriate equipment for scanning up to but not limited to body coils.

Identifies gross pathology and adjusts T1 and T2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation; adjusts equipment parameters to minimize risk to self and patient.

Performs diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats and MIP imaging.

Performs specialized exams (e.g., MRA runoffs and post-arthrogram workups).

Uses magnetic resonance equipment effectively and adjusts parameters to minimize exposure; follows established protocols including window/contrast levels, scanning time sequences, delays, thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, and 3-D image reconstruction; photographs, archives and retrieves images.

Is certified to start and remove IV lines for contrast studies per policy; identifies and responds to IV contrast reactions up to calling emergency personnel; proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector.

Identifies each patient, reviews requisition and prior studies for consistency; records pertinent data on MRI requisition; performs comprehensive screening of patients and others before entering the MR system room.

Explains and informs anyone entering the MR system room about dangers related to implants and devices, pacemakers, ICDs, and loose objects.

Reviews examinations for technical accuracy, presents completed examinations to the radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to care providers after the procedure.

Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification.

Maintains a daily MRI patient log documenting accurate patient information, physician, contrast used, and examination performed to support quality patient care.

Organizes patient care and sets priorities by giving critical care precedence and following physician orders.

Performs computer tasks with working knowledge of patient orders, status changes, patient charges and profiles.

Performs other duties as directed.

Experience Basic Qualifications:

Minimum one (1) year experience as an MRI technologist or registry eligible ARRT MRI; if new hire and not yet certified, certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire with one (1) year recent experience as a Radiologic Technologist with ARRT required.

Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Education

Graduate of an accredited radiology technology program or MRI Accredited Certificate program required.

High School Diploma or GED required.

License, Certification, Registration

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging within 12 months of hire OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate

Basic Life Support

Radiologic Technologist Certification

Additional Requirements

Stand, push, pull and lift patients as needed.

Adjust routines to accommodate patient or department without affecting flow.

May be required to lift objects heavier than 50 pounds; perform difficult manipulative tasks and maintain hand-eye coordination; walk and stand for prolonged periods; see objects closely and hear with some background noise.

Concentrate on fine detail with potential interruptions and attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.

Good oral and written communication skills; customer-focused service abilities; proficiency in applicable computer software.

Current in ARRT or ARMRIT CEU requirements.

Venipuncture competency check off required within three (3) months of hire.
