Women's Health Nurse Practitioner – Primary Health Care, Inc (PHC)
PHC is a non‑profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive health services to all members of the community, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Primary Health Care, Inc (PHC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bery Engebretsen in Des Moines, IA and offers a spectrum of medical and dental services, including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care, and pharmacy. PHC’s Homeless Support Services serves people experiencing homelessness in Polk County by offering benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. PHC currently operates clinics in Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown.
Pay Range The base pay range for this position is $92,400 – $138,600 per year. Candidates with extensive related experience may be considered for additional compensation up to the maximum of $138,600.
Responsibilities
Provide medical care in accordance with PHC standards, regulations, and policies, including obtaining medical histories, performing examinations, diagnosing, and treating patients in person or via telemedicine.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, write medical orders and prescriptions, and perform approved procedures.
Maintain and monitor electronic medical records, ensuring complete documentation within PHC time frames.
Complete correspondence, referral documentation, prior authorizations, refill requests, and letters to patients and referring providers within designated time frames.
Participate in process improvement work and quality measures, collaborating with the Patient Care Team to ensure effective and efficient functioning.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including risk management, medical records/peer review, accreditation, and federal, state, and local regulations.
Lead, mentor, train, and educate employees, students, and residents; participate in research as desired.
Qualifications
Graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and licensed as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife.
Demonstrated patient‑centered care experience.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills; able to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office; willingness and ability to learn database applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional interpersonal skills, able to interact calmly, empathetically, and efficiently.
Exceptional collaboration and team‑oriented skills.
Outstanding problem‑solving skills with analytical and critical‑thinking capability.
License/Certifications: Licensed Nurse Practitioner in Iowa; Board Certified as appropriate for specialty; current registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; current Mandatory Reporter Training (Child and Dependent Adult Abuse) recognized by the Iowa Department of Public Health; valid driver’s license and insurance. Must be obtained during the introductory period if not current.
Preferred Experience
Community Health Center experience.
Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish.
