Job Description Accountable to the Diagnostic Radiology Lead Technologist, Assistant Manager of Radiology, and Manager. Operates general, fluoroscopic, and portable radiographic equipment to perform a variety of radiology examinations/procedures on pediatric inpatients/outpatients. Applies prescribed ionizing radiation solely for the purpose of producing diagnostic-quality images under the supervision of a Physician.
Responsibilities
Assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness. Involve patient/parent/caregiver in care and exam/procedure.
Demonstrate age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduce self and role. Explain procedures thoroughly to patient and/or parent before performing. Encourage questions. Provide support and effective communication within the department and healthcare team. Work efficiently as a team member. Consult with physicians, RNs, and other technologists to ensure quality imaging services.
Adhere to a culture of safety. Wash hands and sanitize equipment as directed.
Ensure timeliness and accuracy in performing requested exams. Perform radiologic exams per protocol. Notify the appropriate provider of any recommended changes. Support other modalities as required.
Perform diagnostic exams across all supported areas including ED, OR, onsite, and off-site locations. Ensure all images are of diagnostic quality, include correct patient demographics, positioning, technique, and laterality markers. Minimize radiation dose following ALARA principles.
Educate and mentor new technologists and students. Evaluate clinical and technical proficiency.
Utilize information technology systems effectively. Ensure images and documentation are complete and accurate. Follow hospital and department policies, procedures, and protocols.
Coordinate equipment maintenance and servicing.
Be available to cover nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Rotate shifts and on-call duties.
Support the organization’s mission, values, and goals through exemplary behavior and customer service.
Practice within the scope of CT Radiologic license and ARRT (R) certification.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience Required:
Graduate of an ARRT-accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
License and/or Certification Required:
Current Connecticut Radiographer License or must obtain within 90 days of hire.
Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by ARRT (R) or must obtain within 90 days of graduation with documentation of program completion.
Current BLS certification upon hire.
