Position Summary:

Cardiac Sonographer II performs an extensive range of cardiac ultrasound studies and may also perform vascular studies in the clinical and research settings at various locations. Examinations may include Transthoracic, Exercise, and Pharmacologic Stress Echocardiograms, special procedures including but not limited to echo guided myocardial biopsies, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy studies, and additional procedures as dictated by research protocols and clinical trials. Additional responsibilities may include, but not limited to, coordination of the day to day operations as charge sonographer, may serve a leadership position for the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Cardiac Sonography, Echocardiography Program. This position will also include clinical instructor responsibilities to the JHH Ultrasound students, and Cardiology Fellows in the Echo Lab. Education

Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) - accredited Diagnostic ultrasound program required. B.S. in Diagnostic Ultrasound preferred. Additional clinical experience or credentials may be considered in lieu of some education. Knowledge

Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and cardiac disease. Requires knowledge of medical terminology. Strong knowledge of physics of ultrasound and how this relates to image acquisition. Knowledge of how various diseases affect cardiac function. Skills

Advanced sonographic skills are necessary to obtain and document a complete examination or research protocol. High level analytical ability is needed to obtain appropriate images and required measurements for a diagnostic echocardiogram. Interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to provide technical guidance and instruction for cardiac ultrasound interns, clinical and research fellows, and attending physicians. Strong eye/hand coordination skills are required, along with high visual acuity. Ability to proficiently describe significant clinical findings or developments in research subjects in a timely and comprehensive manner. Must be able to perform a transthoracic echocardiogram in a 45-minute time slot in an outpatient setting. Licensure/Certification

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiac Credentialing International (CCI) is required. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) preferred but not required. Work Experience

Two years of cardiac experience in a hospital setting is required. Salary Range:

$38.98/hour - $64.37/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
