Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of heavy and special motor equipment; and does related work as required.

Power shovels Cranes Wrecker trucks Heavy tractor-trailers Catchbasin cleaning machines Motor graders Other earth moving equipment Responsibilities include examining and locating mechanical defects, disassembling, repairing, grinding or replacing parts, fitting new parts, and adjusting engines, pumps, carburetors, fuel injectors, governors, starting motors, clutches, transmissions, differentials, brakes, and steering gear. The work also involves replacing electrical wiring, overhauling hydraulic lifts and steering assemblies, fabricating and rebuilding parts using welding equipment, and maintaining records of time and materials used. Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of related work experience. Must have own tools. Ability to meet MA Emission Testing Certification (may be required). OEM or ASE certification (may be required). EVT Certification Level 1 (may be required). Ability to become certified in federally mandated refrigerant recycling and service procedures. Pre-employment physical and drug test. CDL Class B with airbrake endorsement (may be required). Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
