Material and Process Engineer
Location: Berkeley, MO. Company: The Boeing Company. Role: Experienced Engineer – Composites Materials, Process, & Physics Engineer in the Integrated Materials & Structures Technology Team within Boeing Technology Innovation (BTI).
The team executes research and development of next‑generation thermoset composites for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) programs and develops manufacturing demonstrator programs to de‑risk and accelerate adoption.
Responsibilities
Support development and optimization of composite materials‑prepregs, adhesives, core materials and related consumables.
Define and validate manufacturing processes (layup, curing, autoclave/out‑of‑autoclave processing, consolidation) for production programs.
Perform materials characterization and testing: mechanical (tensile, compression, shear), thermal (DMA, TGA, DSC), moisture uptake and microscopy.
Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data; prepare test reports and present findings to the team.
Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and process control plans for production transitions.
Support root‑cause investigations and corrective actions for material and process related nonconformances.
Conduct supplier evaluations and material qualification activities.
Follow safety, quality and environmental procedures in the lab and manufacturing areas.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
1 or more years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of composite materials and processing methods.
Familiarity with standard materials testing methods.
Knowledge of composite design considerations and failure modes.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Strong problem solving and experimental skills; ability to apply knowledge of materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems, sub‑systems and designs.
Solid written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear test reports and presentations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis tools.
Willingness to work in lab/manufacturing environments.
Travel 10% travel required.
