Preconstruction Manager – Food & Beverage Manufacturing
Join The Haskell Company as a Preconstruction Manager in the Food & Beverage Manufacturing division. This senior role focuses on all preconstruction activities for large food, beverage, and consumer manufacturing projects, ensuring accurate budgets, value engineering, schedules, procurement plans, subcontractor prequalification, detailed take‑off, bid package scope definition, bid evaluation, and detailed estimate presentation.
Responsibilities
Pre‑Estimate: Participate in design review meetings, monitor scope and constructability during design development, lead estimate plan meetings, and develop estimate plans with clear strategy and expectations.
Estimate Development: Lead the estimator team, compile multidisciplinary estimating work products, manage RFIs, review proposal milestone dates, ensure estimate completion timeliness, coordinate tax and insurance requirements, maintain compliance with RFP documents, and conduct estimate review meetings.
Subcontractor Management: Build and maintain subcontractor relationships, manage bid lists, qualify subcontractors, conduct pre‑bid meetings, develop bid packages, coordinate operational resources, receive quotes, conduct subcontractor analysis, and lead scope review meetings.
Post Estimate: Submit project budgets to accounting, assist subcontractor selection, compile scope‑of‑work documents for contractual agreements, document lessons learned, and communicate budget underruns and overruns to the preconstruction department.
Database Maintenance: Maintain preferred subcontractor, bid forms, bid package, cost history, and estimating databases.
Training: Train Preconstruction Specialists and other personnel and aid in developing the training program.
Travel: Attend local subcontractor meetings, bid walks, conferences, and perform required travel (5–20% of time).
Qualifications
Proven experience managing preconstruction for large‑scale food, beverage, and consumer manufacturing projects, emphasizing complex projects.
In‑depth knowledge of construction principles and practices.
Experience with subcontractor management and self‑perform work.
Self‑starter, highly motivated to deliver project results.
Ability to build trust and influence stakeholders internally and externally.
Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Haskell’s core values and maintains a value‑added approach to preconstruction.
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage varied audiences.
International and domestic travel capability as required.
Education / Experience
Bachelor of Science in an accredited construction‑related curriculum (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent).
7+ years of estimating experience.
