POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Molding Maintenance Manager, the Automation Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing various IML Robots, Take-out robots, lid stacking equipment, and Vision Inspection systems. The primary job functions include troubleshooting and setting up robots and auxiliary equipment, responding to machines requiring repair or performance improvements. The technician will also perform Preventative Maintenance and work on projects as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set-up and maintain parts handling equipment for plastic containers and lids, including take-out robots, IML robots, vision inspection systems, and associated equipment.
Load and modify HMI programs to reduce defects, improve cycle time, and increase efficiency.
Read and interpret robot HMI messages/errors for diagnosing faults.
Install, diagnose, adjust, and replace sensors, servo motors, drives, encoders, and cables.
Configure vision inspection systems after label or material changes.
Perform start-up and mid-run vision system inspections, including defect testing and barcode/QR code testing.
Conduct robotic preventative maintenance, including cleaning, greasing, and replacing components.
Install and maintain pneumatic components.
Complete documentation and record issues accurately.
Communicate effectively across shifts and with supervisors.
Identify and escalate quality or production concerns.
Participate in continuous improvement projects.
Comply with safety, HACCP, and GMP standards, using appropriate PPE.
Monitor and ensure safety and quality compliance, proactively suggesting hazard eliminations.
Follow food safety and cGMP procedures; training provided.
Note: Work involves high noise levels, heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and physical movements such as walking, climbing, reaching, and bending.
Skills/Experience Required:
Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma
Preferred:
Post-secondary education in Automation
Experience:
3-5 years in high-volume manufacturing, preferably in plastics or food packaging
Skills:
Proficiency in PC use, problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, experience with vision systems, knowledge of IML and injection molding beneficial
Physical & Communication Skills:
Strong mechanical skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively
