Job Description
The Quality Engineer will focus on containment both for customers and internally, collaborating closely with production supervisors to address and resolve issues through root cause analysis. They will work alongside Manufacturing Engineers to devise poka-yokes and long-term solutions. The role supports all plant areas, including Gears, Assembly, and Components/Machining. The Quality Engineer will manage PPAP processes plant-wide, responsible for launching and approving plant moves. They will validate equipment and machines during launches, ensuring readiness for submission.
Responsibilities
Facilitate PPAP processes across the plant. Ensure quality containment. Recommend quality improvements by identifying and applying relevant statistical methods to manufacturing processes. Research statistical confidence by determining sample size, acceptable error rate, and levels of confidence. Analyze quality data from plant processes and customer indicators. Provide feedback to customers based on quality projects like warranty and APQP issues. Lead quality investigations and problem-solving efforts. Research statistical reliability using techniques such as mean time before failure, reliability modeling, and reliability demonstration tests. Develop quality improvement experiments using full and fractional factorial techniques. Create sampling plans using attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods. Maintain statistical process controls by applying zone charting and charts for distributions. Analyze data using hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests. Prepare statistical information and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends. Contribute to organizational success by welcoming diverse requests and assisting others in achieving job results.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. 3+ years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience facilitating PPAP and APQP. IATF/automotive experience. Proven troubleshooting and root cause analysis (8D or Shainin). Experience in capability studies. Containment experience. Familiarity with Six Sigma, Minitab, statistical analysis, and statistical process control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Minitab/statistical analysis experience is a plus. Six Sigma Black Belt certification is advantageous. Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Work Environment
The Quality Engineer will work primarily on the 1st shift, collaborating with a team of 14 Quality Engineers divided into Gears, Assembly, and Components (Machining) areas. The role may require travel up to 20%, primarily to facilities in Rochester, IN, and Detroit. The workweek is typically 50 hours, with standard hours from 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm. The role is approximately 60% on the floor and 40% desk-based. The team fosters a collaborative mentality, working together to address and resolve issues. Team members will have opportunities for internal training and development, with potential for career advancement. Benefits include 10 days of PTO, 6 paid holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $40.86/hr.
