Job Description
Working in Grid Operations at ERCOT provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the real-time operations of the electric power grid while developing your engineering and leadership skills. Our world-class engineering teams collaborate with generators and control room operators to address current energy demands using cutting-edge technologies. This role involves providing engineering analysis and technical support to ensure reliable operation of the electric power grid, in compliance with NERC Standards, ERCOT Protocols, and Market Guides. Responsibilities include conducting electrical engineering analysis, developing system models, monitoring and controlling the system, performing system studies, analyzing operational results, and reporting findings and recommendations. Engineers will focus on working with the Energy Management System, particularly tuning and supporting Load Frequency Control, Resource Limit Calculator, and Generation Dispatch. Additionally, they will analyze system performance and reliability using techniques such as statistical/probabilistic analysis and machine learning to ensure grid stability. Job Duties Apply principles and concepts related to electrical engineering and ERCOT's culture. Exercise judgment within established procedures. Assist and guide junior engineers. Work under supervision to achieve departmental goals. Follow all applicable rules, regulations, and policies. Develop and utilize software tools to improve system reliability and efficiency. Participate in team studies and projects. Mentor less experienced staff as needed. Work independently on assignments. Contribute to the development of tools and procedures to enhance reliability. Collaborate with other departments on system changes. Experience Required Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience beyond degree requirements. Experience as a power system engineer or similar role is required for higher positions. Preferred experience within the electric utility industry. Strong data analytics skills and experience with large datasets and relational databases. Proficiency in Python and SQL. Education Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Required). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Work Location Hybrid work model: on-site in Taylor, TX, 2-3 days per week, flexible scheduling. Remote work from Texas required. Employees may choose to work more on-site or fully on-site if desired.
