As a Mechanical Engineer on TDB’s team, you will participate in design and development efforts in a broad range of areas such as mechatronics, fluidics, pneumatics, thermal control, optics, chassis and enclosures for life science instrumentation, diagnostic tools and point-of-care devices, as well as their associated consumables/cartridges. Mechanical Engineers are a critical part of a cross-functional team that develops complex instrumentation for customers ranging from young start-ups to well-established companies. Projects are typically fast-paced, technically diverse and rely on a close-knit, interdisciplinary team comprised of other Mechanical Engineers and Designers, a Technical Project Manager, Embedded Systems Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Software/Firmware Engineers, Consumables Engineers, and Industrial Designers.
Your Contribution:
Design and develop mechanical systems and sub-systems for Medical Devices and life science instrumentation. These may include mechatronics, optical, thermal, fluidic and micro-fluidic aspects.
Ensure all requirements and specifications are being met and that all systems, sub-systems and components are being designed or selected for reliability, manufacturability and serviceability.
Present concepts, designs and data in formal concept/design review meetings and regular group meetings.
Develop, document and execute processes and procedures needed for breadboard, prototype and pilot evaluation and integration stages. This includes writing test protocols and test reports.
Design, build and operate fixtures, breadboards and prototype systems.
Your Background:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably with relevant industry experience in life science instrumentation or diagnostic/medical device development.
Contributed to the design and development of at least one life science instrument or diagnostic device, from feasibility through manufacturing
A high degree of motivation, creativity, and resourcefulness to help us solve challenging problems and develop cutting-edge products
A solid understanding of engineering fundamentals
Must be team oriented with a positive, can-do attitude
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated success working in multidisciplinary team environments
Proficiency with SolidWorks
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
