Job Summary This job assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.
Responsibilities
Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedures according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).
Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality.
Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and notifies/remediates as warranted.
Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
Adapts communication and approach to the patient population, respecting privacy and obtaining necessary permissions.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education Required - Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.
Work Experience Required - None. Preferred - Radiologic technology experience.
Certifications Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or ARRT registry eligible, registered by ARRT within 90 days of employment, and temporary state license required. Current unrestricted license in the state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call) and travel between facilities.
Physical and Environmental Demands Heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue. Works in patient care areas and with specimens that could contain diseases. Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste depending on duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable performance of essential functions.
