The
Medical Records Technician II
will perform discharge record processing, process requests for internal and external release of information, verify assignment of new medical record numbers, update and/or correct patient data, and maintain patient confidentiality. Essential Job Functions
Performs discharge record processing by retrieving, assembling, following-up on missing records and documentation, and maintaining electronic and hardcopy records/systems Processes requests for internal and external release of information by requesting, reserving, pulling, tracking, routing, delivering, retrieving, communicating and monitoring electronic and hardcopy medical records for the various requesters Verifies assignment of new medical record numbers by external departments and assigns new medical record numbers as defined by department standards and policies Updates and/or corrects patient data in various HIM and medical center systems or the physical medical record Corrects/deletes data entry errors or omissions associated with tasks performed in electronic systems Maintains patient confidentiality as required by Medical Center, departmental and industry/legal standards Keeps work area neat and clean; properly cares for equipment Performs tasks of Medical Record Technician I as necessary Performs other related tasks as may be deemed necessary for the effective and efficient function of the HIM areas Performs other duties assigned Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required 1 to 2 years previous experience in an acute care HIM dept as a Medical Record Technician I or similar position required Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines Strong communication and interpersonal skills- both in customer interaction and phone call interaction Must be able to work independently with self-discipline and in a team environment Medical terminology training required or successful completion within 9 months of employment Good key entry and/or typing skills with CRT and/or PC experience required Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of medical-legal rules and regulations that governs confidentiality and release of protected health information Terminal digit filing Position Details
