Connecticut Children's . Responsibilities and requirements describe ultrasound imaging duties across departments, patient care, safety, documentation and collaboration with the healthcare team. Responsibilities

Assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness. Involve patients, parents and caregivers in care and exam/procedure; explain procedures thoroughly; allow time for questions. Demonstrate age-related competency and cultural sensitivity; introduce self and role; provide effective communication and teamwork within the department. Consult with physicians, nursing staff and other technologists to provide quality imaging; adhere to a culture of safety; wash hands and sanitize equipment as directed. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of exams; perform ultrasound exams per protocol; notify appropriate parties of any variations or changes; document in the Hospital Information System. Cover satellite locations as needed; support other modalities within the department; perform diagnostic exams in ED, OR, inpatient units and outpatient clinics. Educate and mentor new hires and students; evaluate clinical and technical proficiency; utilize information technology systems related to the role. Upload outside studies into the Hospital Information System; burn CDs when necessary; ensure complete and accurate images and documentation in the patient record. Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures; coordinate equipment service and communicate requests. May be scheduled for nights, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays; rotate shifts and on-call responsibilities. Demonstrate mission, values and customer service; practice within scope; assist with approved trial/research studies; maintain a safe environment. Perform ultrasound procedures by positioning patients, selecting transducers and scanning sequences to produce accurate images; ensure technical quality according to ACR standards. Organize images and data for radiologist interpretation; consult on image quality as requested. Education and/or Experience Required

Graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Position Specific Education and/or Experience

One year ultrasound experience preferred; one year pediatric experience preferred; certification in pediatric ultrasound preferred. Licenses and/or Certification Required

Credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within one year for recent graduates. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire, and maintained thereafter. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge: Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and communication skills; exemplary customer service; competency in caring for patients across ages and backgrounds. Skills: Strong ultrasound technical knowledge, scanning parameters and equipment operation; critical thinking for clinical decision-making. Abilities: Learn and adapt to different technologies; mentor coworkers and students; provide excellent patient and family experience; practice hospital safety. Qualifications
