Traveling Superintendent - Low Voltage/Building Technology
The Aptitude Superintendent 2 will manage and execute more complex projects related to intelligent integration. This position is responsible for managing Aptitude Intelligent trade partners, planning construction sequencing, and meeting project goals to achieve timely and profitable completion, in support of JE Dunn’s strategy, vision and values. Key Role Responsibilities - Core
Lead all aspects of the project’s safety culture and promote an injury-free environment through leadership and mentoring. Coordinate client and project team communications and issue escalation related to low voltage scopes of work. Coordinate technology design and construction efforts to meet constructability, quality, financial and technical standards. Manage company staff, low voltage technology subcontractors, suppliers and programs (Safety, Quality, EEO) for small projects or major portions of larger projects. Develop work plans for low voltage subcontractors and self-performed work. Oversee care, custody and control of the assigned low voltage scope of work. Create and manage the project schedule in collaboration with the Aptitude Project Manager. Track and monitor project budget and costs as applicable. Communicate key project information to owners, design team, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments. Update drawings, logs, diaries and inspection notebooks; complete daily and weekly reports and logs. Evaluate progress on self-perform work and adjust as needed; manage materials and equipment needs. Assist in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for low voltage systems installation and implementation. Coordinate with all trades to ensure conduits, pathways and back-box infrastructure are installed prior to cabling and device installation. Ensure quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and external resources; support project closeouts with pre-punch activities. Participate in project pursuits and the project pre-plan; assist leadership in establishing local workforce for the project. Collaborate with project management on schedule and cost changes; participate in project review meetings. Understand and apply owner and subcontractor contract terms and conditions; promote diversity and inclusion in the organization. Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core
Manage fairly complex projects from start to finish; assume responsibility for management, scheduling, production, quality and safety on the project. Identify, understand and actively manage project risks within their scopes of work. Engage trade partners to execute scopes of work; apply knowledge of all low voltage systems connections to project deliverables. Configure/program project-to-project software for testing and troubleshooting as needed. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong ability to perform work accurately and on time. Thorough understanding of low voltage technology systems (structured cabling, access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, A/V, building automation, nurse call, RTLS, phone systems, network electronics). Ability to work across multiple vertical markets and apply Lean principles. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; proficient in MS Office. Knowledge of construction management fundamentals, project processes, and JE Dunn construction technology. Ability to read and understand blueprints; manage budgets and profitability; build relationships for future work. Knowledge of divisions 8/23/25/27/28 low voltage systems; ability to collaborate within a team. Ability to manage self-perform and labor productivity. Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required) Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred) Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the above Experience
5+ years construction experience (Required) 5+ years experience in Division 8/23/25/27/28 related systems (Required) 3+ years field supervision experience (Required) 5+ years experience managing projects (Preferred) Working Environment
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds May require travel and relocation; may involve non-traditional hours Exposure to extreme conditions (hot or cold); frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching; occasional sitting or computer use Benefits
