Hillsborough County Public Schools Summary: The Secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher (grades 6–12) is responsible for the instruction of designated CTE content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school (grade 6–12). District expectations : All district employees must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions. Responsibilities : Design and implement appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs. Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport. Create and deliver relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement. Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet individual student needs. Observe and evaluate student performance and mastery of standards, monitor assessment data, and maintain student grades and attendance. Manage student behavior using effective classroom management strategies and appropriate disciplinary procedures. Communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourage parental involvement. Take responsible precautions to provide for health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain and secure confidential records, inquiries, and data; maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required. Engage with local business and community partners to support the CTE program. Participate as local chapter advisor for the appropriate Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). Pursue continuous improvement and professional development, including earning appropriate industry certifications. Perform any other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change as determined by the needs of the district. Job knowledge: Be competent in required job skills and knowledge; learn and apply new skills; stay current with developments; requires minimal supervision; understand how the job relates to others; use resources effectively. Judgment: Make timely, sound decisions; explain reasoning and include appropriate people in decision-making. Project management: Develop project plans, coordinate projects, communicate changes and progress; complete projects on time and within budget; manage project team activities. Planning and organizing: Prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; plan for additional resources; work in an organized manner. Degree or formal training in the content area preferred; industry certification or state license may be required where applicable. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred; eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required; eligibility for District Certificate required, including one of the following options: related bachelor’s degree with two years related experience; related AA/AS degree with four years related experience; one year of technical training with five years of verifiable experience; six years of in-field verified work experience. Language skills: Reads, analyzes, and interprets documents; responds to inquiries; writes clearly and presents effectively. Mathematical skills: Applies math concepts to practical situations as needed. Reasoning ability: Solves practical problems; interprets various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer skills: Microsoft Office. Physical demands : Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing. Lifting: Up to 10 pounds. Reaching: Both hands; overhead. Environment: Noise level moderate.
