The City of Spokane is hiring a Senior Traffic Operations Engineer to focus on signal timing, design of traffic control devices, geometric design, traffic control plans, and project plan reviews. This engineer will be City of Spokane's representative on the Spokane Regional Transportation Management Center's (SRTMC) Operating Board. Key Responsibilities

Traffic Signal Operations and Timings -

Optimizes traffic computer systems and resolves malfunctions and programming errors. Supervises and coordinates with Street Department Traffic Engineering staff for the collection of turning movement volumes, investigates citizen inquiries, and directs signal maintenance technicians to adjust the signal operations. Projects and Agency Coordination -

Coordinates with internal and external staff to adjust signal timings during construction projects and special events. Maintains as-built signal drawings and volume data through coordination with signal techs. Design & Policy Review -

Reviews signal designs, ITS designs, and intersection geometry for operational concerns and adherence to COS and regional standards. Develops COS policy for signal and ITS components such as emergency vehicle preemption and radar speed signs. Designs and directs special traffic studies, including capacity analysis, traffic count inventories, and related traffic problems. Reviews plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic signal systems, illumination, signing and striping, and traffic control. Provides developers with existing signal parameters and develops future standard parameters to be used in development analysis. Open Entry Requirements

Education:

Must possess a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering;

AND Experience:

Four years of experience in Traffic Engineering at the Professional level. For ITS/Signal Operations Engineer positions, at least two of the four years of experience must be in the ITS/Signal Operations area. License:

Applicants with PE certificates from other states must obtain Washington State certification within six months of appointment. Substitution:

A Master's Degree in Transportation or Traffic Engineering may be substituted for one year of the non-ITS/Signal Operation experience requirement. License

All applicants must possess a valid driver's license. BENEFIT COMPENSATION VALUE In addition to a salary, The City of Spokane provides a generous benefits package valued between $31,097 - $38,667.
