HDR . Our Water Business Group is seeking an Fluvial Hydraulics Section Lead to join our growing team in Northern California. Fluvial hydraulics, flood modeling, and hydraulics in support of civil design are key business lines at HDR, and we expect the work to continue as the need to assess current water resources and evaluate the need for future infrastructure is a vital role of our profession. The Fluvial Hydraulics Section Lead will be responsible for managing and leading projects in flood control, water resources, hydraulic infrastructure improvements, and habitat mitigation, with a focus on applying Fluvial hydraulics principles to rivers, streams, canals, flood control features, and floodplains. The role involves overseeing design and modeling efforts, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring project quality and regulatory compliance. In addition to pursuing new project opportunities, the Section Lead mentors and trains junior engineers and engineers-in-training, fostering technical growth while reviewing and approving work to maintain high professional standards. Fluvial Hydraulics Section Leader , we will count on you to: Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews Work with project teams to identify resource needs on projects Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system Implement, monitor and support company policy Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel Manage and develop multidiscipline teams Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts Work cooperatively with other water resources program leaders to get new clients, increase the work from existing clients, and drive existing projects to be completed with high quality Work cooperatively with other section leads to manage work loads of staff, and complete administrative responsibilities for the section and staff. This includes implementing, monitoring, and supporting company policies Provide leadership, mentorship and administrative support for assigned staff. Build technical expertise and production capacity through recruitment and training Support issue resolution on projects, within teams, with clients and within the broader organization Strategic planning and goal setting Promote HDR by involvement in industry organizations and functions including presentations and publications Continue to develop and maintain a current understanding of what is going on in the industry Perform other duties as needed Preferred qualifications: MS in engineering in water resources Experience with hydraulic and flood analysis tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, FLOW3D Experience working with Federal, state, and local agencies. Experience with multi-benefit projects and standardized planning frameworks. Experience in erosion, scour, and sediment transport modeling. Experience in technology transfer and technical writing.
