Prudential’s Global Retirement & Insurance (GRI) businesses include our US-based Retirement Strategies, Individual Life Insurance, Group Insurance, and Prudential Advisors businesses, and our International Insurance businesses in Japan and Emerging Markets. The GRI Strategy team collaborates across businesses, serving as a key partner to the Business Unit Presidents and their senior leadership teams. We are seeking a proactive and strategic thinker for the role of Director, Strategic Initiatives where you will support the development, prioritization, and execution of strategies and initiatives to drive profitable growth in Retirement markets in the U.S. and retirement opportunities around the world. This will be a hybrid role based out of Newark, NJ. For exceptionally well-qualified candidates, a virtual working arrangement may be considered, with travel as required.
Overview The Director, Strategic Initiatives leads and contributes to strategic projects and initiatives to drive growth in Prudential’s Retirement businesses, partnering with Strategy, Business, and Finance teams and senior leadership.
Responsibilities
Leading business unit strategy projects and workstreams, engaging stakeholders and synthesizing multiple viewpoints to drive clear decisions.
Developing and deploying strategic frameworks to enable prioritization of resource investment.
Building collaborative relationships across Prudential’s Strategy, Business, and Finance teams to drive outcomes and understanding of business drivers.
Supporting the development of strategy documents and communication materials for senior leaders (e.g., Global Leadership Team, Operating Committees, Board of Directors).
Connecting dots across businesses and functions as an enterprise advocate prioritizing broader Prudential interests.
Owning work and development, delivering high-quality, senior-management-ready outputs.
Conducting strategic market research and analysis to identify opportunities aligned with short- and long-term objectives.
Monitoring external trends and potential impacts on the business, including consumer, market, and competitor insights.
Assessing strategic partnerships and growth opportunities (organic and inorganic).
Asking thoughtful questions to challenge the status quo and internal biases.
Cultivating internal and external networks for knowledge exchange and collaboration to strengthen market position.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (e.g., MBA) strongly preferred.
Industry knowledge in Individual and Institutional Retirement markets.
Successful experience in strategic roles within financial services or complex corporate environments.
Strong conceptual thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience leading cross-functional teams and communicating complex topics to senior leaders.
Project management and organizational skills; ability to handle ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Productivity suite.
Ability to distill complex topics into clear narratives for diverse audiences.
Entrepreneurial, self-starting mindset with accountability and action bias.
Curious, lifelong learner with self-directed development.
