Job Description and Duties Under the direction of a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent is in charge of and coordinates the work of a Construction Electrical Office by giving instruction and assistance, maintaining discipline, making decisions, and handling difficult technical and administrative problems in connection with staff assigned. The incumbent will be assigned work based on Divisional and/or Departmental needs. Project sites vary throughout San Bernardino/Riverside Counties and in various environments; travel is required.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ELECTRICAL ENGINEER exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions Position located at 790 Via Lata, Suit 100, Colton, CA, 92324, San Bernardino County.
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
Position is classified as a field position. Sixty (60) percent of the work will be performed at the project site. Forty (40) percent will be in the office writing reports, performing analysis and communicating with other personnel. Project sites vary throughout San Bernardino/Riverside Counties and in various environments; travel is required. Field activities include exposure to moving traffic, loud noises, extreme heat and cold temperature, dust, uneven terrain, and moving heavy construction equipment. May require fieldwork at night. Night Work requires the ability to work with artificial lighting. Ability to be aware of and maintain alertness to the environment is critical. Required to wear and utilize protective clothing; ie, hard hat, work boots/shoes, vests, coverall, eye protection, hearing protection and respirator equipment.

Special Requirements
Possess a valid certificate of registration as an electrical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
In addition to the Standard State Application (STD. 678), all interested applicants are required to submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). A completed SOQ should not be more than two (2) pages, using Arial, 12-point font size. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. You must include specific examples addressing each of the evaluation criteria listed below.
Knowledge and experience in the application and evaluation of electrical design, construction policies and procedures as it relates to electrical assets on transportation infrastructure.
Ability to analyze facts, data and situations, use a variety of problem-solving techniques, develop new and innovative ideas, recommend solutions for improvements, and adopt an effective course of action.
Ability to initiate and maintain positive and effective relationships with internal & external stakeholders and serve in a consulting and coordinating capacity.
