Phoenix Tailings is seeking a

Mechanical Engineer I

who is eager to develop both technically and practically in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup. This entry-level role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing mechanical systems and assemblies—and then getting their hands dirty building and testing them. You’ll contribute to the development of novel equipment and systems that are key to our clean metals production, with exposure to everything from CAD to cutting metal on the shop floor. This role is a great launching point for engineers who want to be involved in every stage of bringing real-world hardware to life. Responsibilities

Support the design of mechanical systems, components, and fixtures using CAD (SolidWorks preferred) Assist with mechanical calculations, material selection, and tolerance analysis for manufacturing readiness Build, assemble, and test mechanical components and prototypes in the lab or on the production floor Support iteration of hardware based on performance feedback and testing results Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs into larger process systems Document designs, test procedures, and results clearly and accurately Help maintain workshop tools, inventory, and a clean, safe workspace Participate in commissioning and troubleshooting of systems in production environments Qualifications

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 1-3 years of experience Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred) Experience with or willingness to learn hands-on fabrication tools (drills, grinders, 3D printers, CNC, etc.) Strong mechanical intuition and desire to learn through building and testing Familiarity with basic manufacturing and assembly practices Passion for solving real-world problems and being part of a team pushing the boundaries of clean technology Benefits
