Overview
Nuclear Medicine Technologist PRN role at Urology San Antonio. Responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceutical drugs that patients receive orally, by injection, or through inhalation, prior to performing nuclear imaging (PET Scans, SPECT Scans) using specialized cameras. Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care: demonstrates mastery of clinical or hospital-level competencies and performs patient assessments within the scope of practice. Analysis And Communication: checks the order for complete information and proper exams, schedules exams as needed; determines if exams should be performed immediately or within a specific timeframe; determines if additional technical support is required and follows proper procedures to obtain support; adheres to established protocols, QA guidelines, and regulatory requirements; interacts appropriately with patients and care providers. Imaging Procedures: sets up the imaging room for the examination, uses two patient identifiers, provides quality customer service, explains studies to patients prior to the exam, transfers patients safely, positions patients for comfort and modesty, selects imaging devices, provides shielding, reviews images for diagnostic quality, and adjusts or repeats images as necessary; starts and maintains IV access as prescribed; identifies, prepares, and administers medications as prescribed; may participate in research activities. Responsibilities Supporting Patient Care: performs patient assessment and screening, bills procedures and supplies, prioritizes workflow to meet daily goals, operates imaging equipment and understands capabilities/limitations, uses image archiving systems, notifies supervisor or vendor of equipment malfunctions, cleans and disinfects equipment, checks equipment status, and rotates within departments to ensure proper coverage; conducts testing to ensure proper calibration and optimal performance of equipment. Responsibilities Supporting Education And Research: assists medical staff and physicists during research projects, assists and evaluates students from affiliated imaging training programs, explains and demonstrates methodologies to students, reviews imaging performance results with students, provides guidance for improvements in technical knowledge and skills, assists in record keeping and data collection; explains procedures and equipment to faculty, residents, and students. Bachelor's Degree or a Nuclear Medicine Technology program graduate, plus two (2) years of clinical experience. Certification by an appropriate body (ARRT OR NMTCB). Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through ARRT (RT-N) or NMTCB (CNMT). CPR certification. Seniority level
