Imaging Nurse Navigator — Covenant Health. Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift. Fort Loudoun Medical Center is equipped with a team of more than 200 doctors in more than 29 specialty areas, featuring advanced imaging technology and a commitment to excellent care. Position Summary
The Imaging Nurse Navigator provides clinical support, treatment access, education, and coordination of patient-centered care to benefit the patient, family, and multidisciplinary physicians while helping achieve optimal outcomes for patients in both the Oncology and Radiology settings. Responsibilities
Acts as the essential link between patients and other care providers to provide resources and assistance with accessing clinical and supportive care services offered within the healthcare system and community. Explains special procedures to patients and their families, including risk, complications, and expected outcomes. Serves as the primary patient advocate and helps patients and families make informed medical decisions; reduces anxiety and supports coping and communication between imaging staff and patients. Educates patients about their diagnosis, treatment options, and available resources, including eligible clinical trials, genetic counseling, or fertility preservation. Obtains medical, surgical, and psychosocial history relevant to patient care and procedures. Implements approved protocols and/or physician orders related to pre-procedure anticoagulation. Coordinates care between healthcare providers and facilities; facilitates patient appointments including labs, diagnostic areas, and specialty physicians. Educates patients about disease, prescribed treatment, imaging procedures, side effects, and management strategies; assists in informed decision-making. Manages access and troubleshooting of Venous Access Devices (Port-A-Caths/Picc Lines) in Oncology/Imaging departments. Initiates venipuncture IV therapy and lab draws prior to imaging exams; interprets lab values and communicates abnormal results to the oncologist/radiologist or other physicians. Assists with risk management and prevention of Contrast Induced Nephropathy; collaborates with radiologists/physicians to determine best imaging alternatives for high-risk patients. Pre-screens at-risk patients for possible contrast allergies and responds to radiologic emergencies as needed. Assists radiologists with procedures, maintains sterile technique, infection control, positioning, radiation protection, and procedural needs. Provides procedural conscious sedation and reversal agents under credentialed radiologist guidance; monitors patients during and after procedures. Provides patient education and accurate discharge instructions for imaging exams and procedures. Evaluates and monitors quality metrics and reports findings to appropriate committees. Adheres to Covenant’s Standard of Behavior; promotes teamwork, process improvement, change management, and fiscal stewardship. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards; completes required education; participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Education
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Minimum Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of RN experience. Licensure Requirement
Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee RN License. Oncology and/or Certified Radiology Nurse or must be working toward obtaining the OCN/CRN within three (3) years of employment. Employment type
