Gather needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card. Maintain the sterile field and anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Monitor adherence to aseptic technique by all team members; act as a self-sufficient contributor in general surgical procedures and select specialty cases; precept new hires. Differentiates between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods. Demonstrates a higher level of surgical case preparation by gathering instruments, supplies, and equipment for general to moderately complex procedures. Provides a higher level of safe patient care; shows understanding of principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience. Has working knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy; maintains environmental safety practices for patient, self, and team at all times. Acts as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role and assumes beginning leadership roles under mentorship. One year of experience working as a surgical technologist. Minimum Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduated from a surgical technologist training program accredited by CAHEEP/ABHES OR NCCT Approved program. Experience:

One year of experience required. Licensure:

BLS required. Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT required at time of start date. Current registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at time of hire. Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods; repetitive motion: passing instruments; lifting heavy instrument sets. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull >50 - 100 lbs. May be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Compensation
