For over 50 years, Metrocare has provided a broad array of services to people with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities, including behavioral health care, primary care centers, services for veterans and families, accessible pharmacies, housing, and supportive social services. The Recovery Support Peer Specialist is an individual in recovery who has been trained to effectively use their recovery story to help and support other individuals with their recovery. The role involves providing individual and group sessions to assist consumers in their recovery process as part of substance use services, serving as a role model, consumer advocate, and providing peer support in the community. The specialist will facilitate peer-to-peer discussions and individual sessions, promote a recovery-oriented culture, and participate in multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities

Provides support to clients using personal experience. Provides individual sessions to those in services. Facilitates peer-led group discussions around various clinical areas related to recovery and sobriety. Engages and familiarizes clients with clinical treatment. Documents services within twenty-four (24) hours of seeing a consumer. Participates in regular supervision, including monthly observational supervision. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and provides feedback on clients progress with treatment when appropriate. Leads family education groups. Connects clients with community supports. Performs other duties as assigned. All peer specialist services must be recovery oriented, person-centered, relationship focused, and trauma informed. Peer specialist services may include: a) recovery and wellness support, including information on planning for recovery; b) mentoring, serving as a role model and assisting in finding community resources; c) advocacy, providing support in stressful or urgent situations and helping to ensure the recipient's rights are respected. Performs other duties as assigned. Competencies

Conducts responsibilities in accordance with ethical standards, state contract, professional standards, and applicable laws. Analytical skills, communication skills, confidentiality, and customer service orientation. Maintains compliance with TRR guidelines for clinical competencies. Ability to remain organized and prioritize work based on urgency and client needs. Group facilitation experience. Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: GED or high school equivalent. 5 years of active involvement in personal recovery without relapse or crisis. Within 6 months of hire, begin certification for the Recovery Support Peer Specialist and start the 250 hours required for certification. Other requirements: Basic math skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions; handle standardized situations with limited variables. Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; internet resources. Current State of Texas Driver License or license in another state with requirement to obtain Texas license within three months. Liability insurance if operating a personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business; must have acceptable driving record. Certification as a Recovery Support Peer Specialist.
