Overview
WSP is one of the Globe's leading engineering firms, helping New England clients and communities improve their infrastructure, while committing to developing professional careers in construction management and inspection. The local construction management division and inspection team has grown over the past twenty-five years across ME, MA, and NH projects. WSP is currently initiating a search for a Highway Resident Engineer to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated infrastructure with construction values ranging from $1–$50 million. This position can be based out of Portland, Augusta or Eliot, ME and Merrimack, NH. Your impact includes managing various work elements such as excavation, backfilling, compaction, cast-in-place concrete from formwork to reinforcement, guardrail, drainage, overhead sign structures, and other incidental items. The resident engineer will report to the Construction Manager or Project Manager and may act as their representative depending on experience. Responsibilities and requirements are described below.
Responsibilities
Hands-on or management duties including:
Managing a staff of inspectors and on-call material technicians or surveyors
Daily interface with the contractor, subcontractors and project owner
Charing progress meetings and preparing minutes
Reviewing, interpreting construction contract documents and overseeing work for conformance to plans and specifications
Reviewing technical submittals and shop drawings for general intent and compliance
Anticipating and helping resolve design and construction issues
Reviewing contractor's project schedule for general information related to schedule and logic
Completing daily reports, measuring, calculating and tracking unit price quantities
Leading the contractor's pay requisition development, review and approval process
Evaluating potential change orders and making recommendations; leading change order negotiations with the owner
Monitoring maintenance of traffic for compliance
Taking and compiling photographs for tracking daily progress
Updating red-line drawings using Bluebeam
Preparing and updating punch lists
Coordinating final inspections and preparing final pay estimate
Supporting the final closeout process
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies
Upholding workplace safety and complying with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma
11 years applicable experience, including 4 years of supervising staff
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills; average proficiency with MS Word Suite
Valid driver’s license
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications
Associate of Science in Engineering or Construction Management, or a related field; Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field
ACI or NETTCP certifications, or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring
Hands-on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD or similar systems; knowledge of Bluebeam
Demonstrated supervisory skills
Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications and experience will be considered
