Location: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) in Roanoke, VA. The successful candidate will work one day per week on the unit to assist with real time education and support for new staff. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, mostly day shift with some evening responsibility.

The Clinical Educator develops and delivers education to clinical staff to enable high quality, evidenced-based, and safe patient care. Education includes clinical orientation, annual competencies and other clinical validation programs, regularly incorporating emerging safety trends, regulatory policies, and quality performance priorities for the division and the organization.

Responsibilities

Assesses learning needs of the clinical team and develops or coordinates education, and evaluates educational outcomes, including collaboration with external entities.

Coordinates with Carilion Human Resources on developing, delivering, and assessing clinical orientation, including face-to-face and/or computer-based training.

Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates a clinical onboarding program to ensure a smooth transition to the practice setting.

Establishes a preceptor program linking new staff with existing staff during orientation and assesses and refines the program as needed.

Develops and maintains an education monitoring system to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements for clinical staff, supporting initial and ongoing accreditation.

Maintains an education monitoring system to meet individual and group education needs; collaborates with managers regarding progress or action plans.

Assists Safety and Compliance Officers with evaluating new or updated policies and protocols and supports implementation of safety-related policies in the department.

Develops, delivers and evaluates clinical annual competencies and other clinical validation programs, incorporating safety trends, regulatory policies, and quality priorities.

Develops an annual curriculum of educational topics aligned with safety trends, regulatory policies, and quality priorities for the division and organization.

Participates in clinical staff performance reviews as appropriate, including office-based clinical/lab staff who have participated in supplemental education or training.

Facilitates individualized patient/family education related to disease processes and management, and related processes and management education.

Establishes collaborative working relationships across departments to promote patient safety and culturally competent care.

Obtains nursing professional development credentials as needed (e.g., BLS or instructor certifications).

What We Require Education:

Bachelor's degree or 4 years of experience from an accredited program in area of clinical specialty required in lieu of degree.

Experience:

3-5 years of clinical experience.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration:

Licensed/Registered in clinical specialty as required by the state of Virginia (e.g., Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, etc.) and department.

Other Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge/experience in principles and theory in clinical specialty, adult learning principles, assessment and evaluation skills, interpretation of complex data, knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice. Strong oral and written communication, project management, time management, organizational, training, customer service skills. Ability to think critically, be creative, take initiative to improve processes. Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team.
