Overview
PARTNERSHIP HEALTH CENTER (PHC) is in the process of separating from Missoula County, with completion expected by the end of this year. As a result, our employee benefits package will be changing as early as January 1, 2026. While final details are not yet available, the future benefits are expected to remain comparable in value and scope to our current offerings. PHC is located in Missoula, Montana, a community described as an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise near Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks and home to the University of Montana.
PHC offers integrated primary care services including medical, dental, behavioral health, and an on-site pharmacy, serving over 18,000 individuals and families. We are a 14-site, co-applicant Federally Qualified Health Center with Missoula County and are committed to providing high-quality care and supporting social determinants of health. Benefits include medical (no cost for employee), dental and vision insurance, loan forgiveness, retirement plan contributions, and generous paid sick and vacation time.
Responsibilities
Serves as a physician member of the PHC primary care staff, providing primary medical care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, and maintaining medical records using the adopted format.
Addresses preventive health and public health issues as appropriate.
Assures appropriate referrals and/or hospitalization with hospitalists as indicated for patients.
Participates in after-hours call system for PHC patients in cooperation with other PHC providers.
Participates in quality assurance activities including chart review, CQI team participation, and other activities as assigned by the Medical Director.
Participates in PHC staff meetings and clinic meetings, and serves as a leadership model for staff regarding commitment to PHC's mission and philosophy.
Establishes, reviews, and maintains clinical policies to assure the quality of medical care provided to patients.
Contributes to PHC's annual health care plan and goals and objectives; contributes to policies and protocols for mid-level practitioners; assists in supervising mid-level providers in the PHC clinic.
Serves as liaison between PHC and the medical community and performs related work as required or directed.
Performs related work as required.
Participates in on-call coverage and may include evening and weekend hours; travel to affiliated satellite locations may be necessary.
Position Details In addition to clinical responsibilities, this position may include Medical Director duties of approximately 10 hours per week, providing leadership and guidance to the care team, supporting clinical quality initiatives, and helping shape organizational policies and standards of care. Approximately 30 hours per week are clinical; the Medical Director duties are in addition to this workload.
Supervision & Requirements SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under the general administrative direction and medical supervision of the PHC Chief Executive Officer or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:
Considerable knowledge of the practice of primary care medicine including preventive medicine. Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and PHC Corporate Compliance Guidelines.
SKILLS:
Skill in diagnosis and treatment including use and interpretation of diagnostic tests, current medications and therapies.
ABILITIES:
Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in an evolving program; support PHC's mission and provide culturally sensitive care; develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups, the Missoula medical community, staff, clients, and the public; communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing; assist in developing and practicing protocols approved by the PHC Executive Director, Medical Director, and Board of Directors.
Education & Special Requirements
Education:
Requires the degree of Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited medical school; Board certified, board-eligible, or residency trained; family practice is required.
Special Requirements:
Holds or will hold a current license to practice medicine in the State of Montana with full prescriptive authority and no history of licensure suspension or disciplinary action. Eligible for malpractice/liability coverage. Requires immunizations or proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases and a TB test. New employees may be asked to volunteer vaccination status for required vaccines and will be assisted in obtaining necessary immunizations. Those unable or unwilling to provide vaccination status may receive reasonable accommodation where not creating undue hardship or risk.
Work environment includes PHC clinics and office settings with potential bending and lifting in the medium range (20 to 40 pounds). High risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and potential exposure to communicable diseases. May require evening and weekend hours, on-call coverage, and Saturday clinic shifts. Travel to affiliated satellite locations may be necessary. Not eligible for full-time remote work.
