The Role You’ll Contribute The Medical Laboratory Scientist I conducts a variety of laboratory procedures in designated areas as licensed or certified. This role involves the analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens, requiring a moderate to high degree of both theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in the certified area(s). Laboratory testing encompasses complex diagnostic and analytic assessments of specimens, including interpreting data with precision and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Duties involve a range of pre‑ and post‑analytical work processes, may also require participation in on‑call rotations, and include maintaining quality control practices. The role may also involve managing selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, including workflow management, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem‑solving for customers and coworkers, and maintenance and upgrades of department equipment or computer systems. Responsibilities may also include writing or reviewing procedures and assisting lab leadership in meeting goals across various areas such as Team, Service, Clinical, Market, and Finance.

Performs pre‑analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection, and quality control and calibration performance.
Performs assigned tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately, participates in proficiency testing, and consistently adheres to federal and state regulations and institutional policies.
Performs post‑analytical activities, reports results (including highly abnormal results) in accordance with established procedures, and provides technical and support information for all age groups.
Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students, documenting orientation and training activities.
Provides guidance to technicians and support staff, resolves customer service issues within guidelines, and facilitates workflow when necessary.
Qualifications
Associate in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or
Successful completion of at least a 50‑week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician), or
Qualified and served as high‑complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA‑certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since that date. Required.
National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT. Required.
