Job Code: SS5587 Classification: Nonexempt Supervises Positions: No Work Location: UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper Responsibilities
The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring the operating room environment is safe and equipment functions properly. Provide sterile/aseptic technique, knowledge of instrumentation, and assist the physician during invasive procedures. Communicate with leadership and unit staff to identify and resolve issues; keep co-workers and intra-op staff informed of updates. Maintain, operate, and monitor equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and department standards. Assist with various types of surgical operations, providing technically skilled duties and acting as first assist when needed. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure materials; apply common sense to carry out instructions. Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred. Licensure: Current Surgical Tech Certification required, or if employed prior to July 1, 2021, registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine required. Skills: Ability to create and maintain a sterile field; knowledge of instrumentation and equipment; ability to read and interpret safety and procedure documents; basic medical terminology; computer skills. Physical Demands: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand; ability to lift/pull up to 100 lbs; frequent standing, walking, and bending; Safe Handling Equipment for weights over 35 lbs. On Call: On call responsibilities as directed. Travel: Ability to travel between campus and remote facilities as needed. Work Environment & On-Going Notes
May require safety equipment such as HEPA mask for infection prevention. On call and potential travel between locations. Seniority level
