OPPORTUNITY
The MIA Center BCBA is a specialized position designed to support scholars in Multi-Intensive Autism (MIA) Units. This BCBA will deliver consistent, expert-level, individualized behavioral support to students with high support needs, distinct from the broader network-wide BCBA services. Reporting to the Campus Principal and Assistant Principal of Student Services, the MIA Center BCBA will collaborate closely with school-based teams and families to implement data-driven behavior plans, coach staff in real time, and ensure that students with severe autism and developmental disabilities receive high-quality, inclusive support aligned to Breakthrough’s core values.
Key Responsibilities
Student-Centered Behavior Support
Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Analyze student behavior data daily/weekly to refine programming and interventions Use evidence-based practices such as functional communication training and discrete trial instruction tailored to students with severe autism Participate in annual IEP reviews and/or triannual ETR reviews
Staff Training & Coaching
Provide in-the-moment coaching and ongoing training to RBTs, paraprofessionals, and special education teachers Provide training and support to staff on high-fidelity implementation of ABA practices, visual supports, and de-escalation strategies Supervise RBTs for licensure where applicable
Program Development
Develop classroom-wide systems for positive behavior support and structured routines Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., SLP, OT, Special Education Leads) to align student supports Support student transitions across settings, including general education inclusion and community outings
Family Engagement
Facilitate family training sessions focused on communication and skill generalization Maintain consistent communication with families to support consistency between home and school behavior strategies
Qualifications
Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Certification and active Ohio licensure Minimum 2 years of experience with students with severe autism or developmental disabilities Demonstrated expertise in ABA-based programming, FCT, DTT, and crisis prevention Experience in school-based or classroom settings preferred Strong data analysis, coaching, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge, Skills & Mindsets
Deep knowledge of intensive ABA strategies and behavior support for severe autism Skill in coaching adults and supporting adult learning in high-stress environments Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices Passion for Breakthrough’s mission and belief in every scholar’s potential Ability to model high expectations with empathy and cultural responsiveness
