Key Responsibilities
24-Hour Coverage: Assist in ensuring 24-hour nursing coverage for the Mental Health Unit, providing appropriate clinical treatment.
Sick Call Coordination: Coordinate sick call for the Mental Health Unit, ensuring nurse triage and appropriate referrals for physician follow-up.
Clinical Duties: Implement psychiatric and physician orders in a timely and clinically effective manner. Administer and monitor medications according to Mental Health Unit policies and procedures.
Initial Nursing Assessment: Provide an initial nursing assessment for inmates admitted to the Mental Health Unit as soon as the inmate’s condition permits.
Documentation: Document changes in inmate functioning and critical incidents in the Medical Record.
Nursing Discharge Summary: Complete nursing discharge summaries when inmates are transferred from the Mental Health Unit.
Psychiatric Services Coordination: Assist in coordinating psychiatric services to ensure timely communication with psychiatrists regarding medication changes, inmate functioning, and lab results.
Group Counseling & Activities: Provide group counseling and activities, ensuring Level II inmates receive two hours of out-of-cell time daily.
Medication Administration Records (MARS): Ensure MARS are maintained and updated.
Confidentiality Compliance: Abide by the facility’s security regulations and confidentiality requirements for inmate information.
Medical Supplies Monitoring: Monitor medical supplies to maintain proper inventory and facilitate ordering.
Effective Collaboration: Work with Health Services staff, prison staff, and CMS administrative staff to ensure comprehensive care.
Employee Standards Compliance: Comply with CMS and facility standards, maintain a professional environment, and notify supervisory personnel of absences.
Key Qualifications
Registered Nurse License: Active RN license in good standing in the state of employment.
Mental Health & Correctional Experience: Experience serving mentally ill patients and/or a correctional population is preferred.
CPR Certification: Current CPR certification.
Adherence to Health Services Bulletins: Follow applicable technical instructions and health services bulletins as per regulatory guidelines.
Background Checks: Successful completion of a background check, security clearance, and drug screening required.
