Job Overview The Medication Care Manager is responsible for providing the highest degree of quality care and services by administering medication and treatments in a safe, organized manner. Responsibilities include administration of medications, documentation of medication administration, and providing resident care in alignment with the Sunrise Mission: “to champion the quality of life for all seniors,” in accordance with federal, state/provincial, and local laws, standards, and policies.
Responsibilities
Provide the highest degree of quality care and services by administering medication and treatments in a safe, organized manner.
Review, read, notate, and initial the electronic health record to document information about residents.
Receive medication updates from the Resident Care Director (RCD) or Wellness Nurse.
Administer, assist with, and observe medications and treatments using the medication administration record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
Ensure medications are passed according to times and using the mobile med cart.
Document and initial medication administration and document refusals or missed doses.
Maintain confidentiality of resident information, including medication details.
Report resident concerns and unavailable medications to the RCD or Wellness Nurse.
Restock medication cart after passes and assist in checking medication regardless of packaging system.
Assess residents for as-needed medications and document/report needs to a supervisor.
Count narcotics with another MCM or LCM each shift and report discrepancies.
Maintain and clean the Medication Room, carts, and treatment carts; monitor for expired medications.
Follow refill processes and notify if a new prescription is needed.
Help residents maintain independence and promote dignity and safety, in line with Sunrise Principles of Service.
Communicate empathetically with residents, considering individual communication patterns, histories, and needs.
Resident Care Communications
Notify RCD of any resident and/or family concerns.
Attend and participate in daily Cross Over meetings facilitated by the LCM.
Participate in the development of Individualized Service Plans (ISP).
Risk Management and General Safety
Ensure compliance with national/provincial regulations related to occupational health and safety, promote risk management programs, and adhere to safety rules.
Practice safety procedures including PPE, fire safety, SDS, and lockout/tagout where applicable.
Report all accidents, unsafe conditions, and hazardous equipment immediately.
Keep cords, carts, and equipment out of walkways and in compliance with fire codes.
Follow infection control techniques and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Understand exposure procedures for bloodborne pathogens and hazardous materials; report exposures immediately.
Ensure oxygen tanks are stored safely and monitored as prescribed.
Training and Team Contribution
Participate as a team member and contribute to team goals; demonstrate Sunrise Credo in daily interactions.
Support residents and guests through Principles of Service.
Support engagement programs and participate in surveys and improvement planning.
Attend regular meetings and trainings as directed; maintain required trainings per regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications
High School diploma/GED (as required by state/provincial regulations)
Maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR and First Aid where applicable)
Must be at least 18 years of age
Previous experience with seniors preferred
Desire to serve and care for seniors
Drivers of Sunrise vehicles must sign Driver job description where applicable
