The program is designed for entry-level graduates or experienced physician assistants seeking to specialize in orthopedics. Program Details

Peachtree Orthopedics offers an Orthopedic Physician Assistant Fellowship Program for entry-level graduates or experienced physician assistants seeking to specialize in orthopedics. Participants will be exposed to all aspects of orthopedic care and gain first-hand experience in our clinics across greater Atlanta. This includes: Grand rounds Journal club Taking call First assist Suturing Casting and splinting Responsibilities

The fellow will rotate within orthopedic subspecialties including sports medicine, hand, wrist, and upper extremity; foot and ankle; joint replacement; back, neck, and spine; and pain management. Clinic

Obtain patient history and/or X-rays Schedule diagnostic studies/surgery and obtain pre-certifications for same Prepare and assist/administer injections/aspirations Obtain specimens for laboratory and complete required forms Application/removal of casts, splints, and braces Perform dressing changes and remove sutures/staples Perform minor office procedures Complete DME charge and/or Physical Therapy referral Complete return to work slips and distribute appropriately Complete applications for Handicap Parking permits Provide patients with educational materials regarding surgery/diagnostic studies or equipment/casts Ensure compliance with OSHA standards regarding bloodborne pathogens Prescribe medications Coordinate work-in appointments Obtain x-ray and diagnostic results from appropriate source Serve as liaison between patient and physician Coordinate consultations with other physicians Order laboratory/diagnostic procedures Establish differential diagnosis and treatment plan Document all records of patient encounters Triage/provide care in the Emergency Room when assigned Provide call coverage when requested Provide OR assistance when needed Perform other duties as assigned May direct the activities of medical assistants in the areas above when appropriate

Hospital Rounds

See and assess patients, review charts, write progress notes and orders when needed Discuss plan of care with all team members Perform procedures as needed — pull drains, dressing changes, etc. Assist with discharge planning

General Office

Attends meetings and performs related work as required Adheres to all Peachtree Orthopedic Clinic policies and procedures, complies with laws and regulations, and engages in ethical patient care and business practices

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Knowledge of professional medical practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
