40 Responsibilities

Assist the Endoscopy/Surgical Services staff under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Coordinate, handle, and disinfect endoscopes. Provide basic patient care, including transporting, obtaining vital signs, and lifting and moving patients. Stock supplies necessary for operation of the department(s). Assist the physician and nurses during the procedure. Maintain competency specific to the population served. Operate within a fast‑paced environment, making quick decisions under pressure and prioritizing multiple projects. Perform physical tasks such as regularly lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional heavier tasks. Support patients by explaining, instructing, and easing patient fears during endoscopic procedures. Assist with room setup, turnover, cleaning, and proper disposal of trash and soiled linen. Assist with delivering lab specimens and perform basic patient care activities such as ambulating and toiletry needs. Respond to patient call lights and take appropriate action. Transport and transfer patients safely to and from departments. Communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, patients, and families. Demonstrate competency in cleaning and disinfecting scopes, accessories, and equipment. Display knowledge of endoscope washer/disinfector usage and high level disinfection techniques. Maintain logs for washer/disinfector, scope inventory, repair, and refrigerators. Restock supplies and ensure adequate inventory levels. Provide clerical assistance to the department as directed. Adhere to established policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Participate in intradepartmental meetings. Commit to outstanding customer service and patient care standards. Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and experience in a health care delivery setting (CMA, CNA, Patient Care Tech, etc.) or comparable experience, or completion of a med‑surg hospital nurse rotation. BLS for healthcare provider certification required within one year of hire. GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification required within one year of hire. Good understanding of basic aseptic technique and high level disinfection. Basic understanding of caring for equipment and supplies. General working knowledge of computers and department‑specific software. Familiarity with location of various departments and hospital regulations/policies. Excellent communication skills with all members of the healthcare team, patients, and family members. Professional phone and electronic communication etiquette. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, make quick decisions under pressure, and prioritize multiple projects. Ability to work extended hours if needed. Physical Requirements

Regularly lift up to 50 pounds; occasional heavier tasks may be required. Ability to use proper body mechanics and safe work practices.
