Summary Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, completed 100 hours of education through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP), successfully pass the required examination, obtain certification, and complete 525 hours of supervised experience. Lived experience in recovery for at least three (3) years, preferred. Lived experience with MAT, preferred. Local tribal member and/or close social affiliation with local tribes preferred. Must have current CPR certification that complies with the guidelines set by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. The Peer Recovery Specialist will assist clients in setting and pursuing their recovery goals, monitoring and quantifying their progress, lending assistance with treatment, and leading by example when it comes to coping strategies that have been helpful in their own recovery. Must be able to work a variable schedule including nights and weekends and travel to meet client and Program needs. Must be able to work with the Indian community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

Deliver advocacy, mentoring, education, and recovery and wellness support to patients receiving TOR services.

Work with licensed/certified chemical dependency counselors to deliver effective and culturally appropriate prevention activities (education, outreach, engagement, and messaging).

Attend project-related meetings with the TOR project team and other RSBCIHI staff members, including the Integrated Care Committee, MAT Committee, and TOR Advisory Committee.

Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through individual and group sessions, supporting clients in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans.

Assist clients in working with their case manager or treatment team to determine the steps needed to achieve their goals and self-directed recovery.

Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups and locating existing groups.

Share personal recovery story during sessions, demonstrating how to direct their own recovery.

Use ongoing individual and group sessions to teach clients how to identify and combat negative self-talk and overcome fears.

Other duties as assigned.

License Valid California Driver’s License with a safe driving record. Must be insurable by the program’s insurance carrier.

Ability To Maintain strict confidentiality procedures. Work with other staff members in a team effort. Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
