The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medication, conducting drug utilization reviews, and patient counseling. The role may include participation in Medication Therapy Management and clinical roles such as Anticoagulation Clinic.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
Prepare medications by reviewing physician orders and detecting incompatibilities.
Dispense medications by packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
Communicate therapeutic concerns with prescribers.
Enforce policies for safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication use.
Ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Report significant issues to the Pharmacist in Charge or Operations Director with recommendations.
Participate in Medication Therapy Management for selected patients.
Participate in Anticoagulation Clinic.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of insurance programs and pharmacy regulations.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Strong organization and detail orientation.
Education and Experience
Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited university.
License in good standing with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
At least 1 year of retail pharmacy experience.
Pharmacy residency and managed care experience are a plus.
Immunization certification is a plus.
