Job Summary
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing various technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Patient Care: Verifies proper clinician order for procedure; Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions; Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast medias to ensure patient safety; Ensures proper patient identification and correct use of right/left markers; Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients; Responds to emergency situations and maintains crash cart and life support equipment; Assists other technologists in all modalities; Evaluates patient condition and seeks physician intervention when needed; Verifies patient identity using two unique identifiers per hospital policy; Maintains patient privacy and comfort; Demonstrates competence in procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age; Organizes schedule and priorities to accomplish activities within time frames; Follows physician instructions; Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection; Uses critical thinking; Communicates with patient/family; Asks clarifying questions; Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders; Understands preprocedural verification and Time Out process; Understands pre-and-post procedural care; Preps patient; Demonstrates sterile technique; Maintains venipuncture competency.
Equipment: Adjusts technique to minimize ionizing radiation dose while maintaining image quality; Reports equipment malfunctions; Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment per infection control policy.
Education and Communication: Explains exam purpose using AIDET; Addresses patient questions; Participates in orientation and training; Provides preparatory instruction; Ensures documentation is concise and precise; Reads scheduled emails and follows assignments; Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education.
Quality Control: Produces acceptable images; Checks calibration and operation; Sends studies to PACS; Prints CDs as needed; Handles after-hours teleradiography workflow; Completes studies in RIS before PACS; Logs and coordinates with Radiologist as applicable.
Operations: Restocks supplies, transports and assists patients; Performs patient charging; Applies shielding and immobilization devices; Collaborates with others to maximize productivity; Keeps supervisor informed; Maintains productivity parity with coworkers; Operates CT workstations; Pushes/retrieves images from CT console to PACS; Maintains Joint Commission and regulatory standards; Takes call when necessary; Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Certifications Required Minimum Education: Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology.
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. ARRT-R (Radiography), ARRT-CT (Computed Tomography), BLS (Basic Life Support) or BLS-Instructor.

Experience
Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology; Less than 1 year experience in CT Preferred.
Required Minimum Skills
Must exhibit excellent communication skills for frequent interaction with physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff and nursing staff. Ability to function independently and under pressure while participating in a team; strong customer service orientation; ability to prioritize, multitask, and maintain attention to detail; professional interaction with diverse stakeholders; comply with hospital policies and department procedures; competent in CT, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection; understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect procedure quality; competent to perform Quality Control tests per ACR and manufacturer guidelines.
