Summary The OR/PACU nurse is a registered nurse who provides services as a member of the OR team, contributing to the overall care of the patient before, during and after surgery. The role includes technical and mechanical functions as well as the ability to function in unusual situations by utilizing expert knowledge and professional judgment to assess the problem and implement significant nursing action.
Responsibilities Direct patient care services are provided to patients and families. Duties include interpersonal relationships with co-workers, physicians and other departments in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and hospital.
Qualifications Education Requirements
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Professional Experience Requirement
Previous experience as an OR nurse preferred, but not required.
Licensure/Registration/Certification
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of NC. ACLS and CPR certification required. CNOR desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
Good interpersonal and communication skills, good manual dexterity, ability to work as a team member, ability to accept criticism, willingness to learn and cooperate, displays calm and self-confidence in acute stressful situations. Must be able to work on a computer.
Work Environment
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment, exposure to other infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, chemicals, airborne pathogens, electrical hazards. May experience stressful work periods. Taking call required exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents. Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to engage in the following physical activities on a daily basis:
Lengthy periods of standing
Moving stretchers, carts and equipment
Assisting with the positioning of patients
Carrying and lifting instrument sets (trays) and various items of equipment
Maintain emotional stability
