Job Summary
Performs, interprets, and correlates clinical laboratory tests by following departmental protocols to assist in physician diagnosis and treatment. Prepares specimens for testing, screens patient specimens, and analyzes patient specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Performs quality control procedures and assists in maintaining an efficient and effective laboratory operation. May serve as a generalist or as a limited specialist.
Essential Functions
Operates laboratory equipment and performs functions including calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, instrument validation studies, quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation. Reads, interprets, and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition to explain test results. Documents and communicates significant information and special occurrences that may affect test results to the appropriate clinician. Routinely checks supplies and reagents to ensure adequate supply levels. Ensures reagents are properly labeled and dated. Directs the work of laboratory assistants or laboratory services representatives and auxiliary personnel as appropriate. Qualifications
Required Bachelor's Degree in a related field 1 year of relevant experience in a related field preferred CRT-Medical Technologist, Certified (MT) - ASCP, Spectrum Health labs (except Toxicology) upon hire required, or CRT-Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP, Spectrum Health labs (except Toxicology) upon hire required, or CRT-American Medical Technologist, Certified (AMT) - AMT, Spectrum Health labs (except Toxicology) upon hire required, or CRT-Clinical Toxicology - AACC, Toxicology Dept only, upon hire required How Corewell Health cares for you
