We are seeking an experienced Varnisher to join our boat building team in Portsmouth, RI. The Varnisher will perform preparation, painting, and varnishing techniques on boats and boat parts, both interior and exterior. Responsibilities include applying finish coats to appropriate thickness, sanding, and re-application as needed.
Responsibilities
Prepare wood, metal, fiberglass, or other surfaces for painting and varnishing.
Protect surrounding surfaces such as decks, hardware, and windows during work.
Clean, sand, and smooth surfaces using appropriate tools like scrapers, sandpaper, steel wool, or chemicals.
Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trims, and fixtures of boats.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED required.
Knowledge and operation of basic hand and power tools such as sanders, paintbrushes, tapes, grinders, and polishers.
Woods coursework preferred.
Basic computer skills.
3–6 years of painting experience, preferably in boat building or repair.
