The CT Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision and uses independent judgment and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Under the direction of the Director of Radiology and Imaging, the CT Technologist operates imaging equipment and performs diagnostic examinations. The CT Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the Radiology Department, patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The role requires initiative, independent judgment, and ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities
Verify patient identity, body part, and body side prior to procedures; perform procedures per approved standards; position patients and provide immobilization as required.
Select proper technical factors and operate imaging equipment; apply ALARA principles to protect patients and staff.
Assist in administering contrast media and consult with radiologists to aid in diagnosis; process and send images to PACS; document information per guidelines.
Maintain a safe, clean work area; report equipment malfunctions and perform daily equipment checks; troubleshoot as needed.
Maintain inventory, assist in department QA/PI activities, and participate in in-service education classes (TB, Hepatitis, Infection Control, safety, etc.).
Communicate daily activities and updates to the Radiology Director; perform other duties as assigned to support department needs.
Qualifications and Education
Required: Associates Degree from an accredited institution or 2-year certification program in Radiologic Technology (including training from United States Armed Forces) and 1 year of CT/Diagnostic technology experience.
CHNOLA LOCATION ONLY: One year to obtain CT Registry by ARRT
Licenses and Certifications
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart Association
Radiography Certification (ARRT) – American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Computerized Tomography Certification (ARRT CT) – ARRT
Radiology Technician (ARRT) – Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Operate imaging equipment effectively and evaluate images for diagnostic quality.
Assess patient condition to determine the best examination approach; educate and prepare patients for procedures.
Ensure safety procedures and screen patients appropriately; coordinate exams and manage documentation.
Consult with radiologists and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
