Pay: $27.30 - $40.95 / hour
Summary
This position assists the flow of patient care to ensure needs are met in a timely fashion. Communicates with other members of the specialty team to facilitate patient care and the goals of the team.
Works under the supervision of the Director and the operating surgeon and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, labeling medications, holding retractors, assisting the surgeon, and assisting with circulating duties as necessary. Applies principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully.
Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures wherein the STFA assists.
Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques.
Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon during the operative procedure.
Assists with positioning, prepping, draping of the patient, and with transfer of the patient to and from the operating room.
Applies surgical dressings.
Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved surgical technologist education program OR successful completion of an accredited LPN program, and successful completion of an accredited course in surgical assisting or first assisting is required.
CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) required. BLS certification required. LPN license required. CSFA (Certified Surgical First Assistant) must be obtained through NBSTSA and verified through Mosaic credentialing. CSFA may be required to close cases on their own depending on role and program policies.
Six months operating room procedural experience or applicable OR clinical rotation experience is required.
