Urgent Care RN - Urgent Care (Midland)

Overview
This position is an integral part of the urgent care team and requires the ability to work effectively with providers and other ancillary staff to deliver high quality, timely, compassionate care. Under direct supervision of the provider, the RN will be responsible for patient assessment, assisting with patient procedures, completing in-office lab testing, splinting fractures, and educating patients on discharge instructions in the urgent care/occupational health setting. The role requires knowledge of specialty and/or primary care symptom management and a variety of medications to assess, plan and deliver timely and appropriate care, especially in emergency situations. The RN may coordinate care and lead other staff members in delivering patient care. The nurse should have skills to venipuncture, perform pulmonary function testing, and administer medications ordered by the provider during the patient visit. The nurse is responsible for communicating lab and radiology results to patients when directed by the provider. The RN may assist with coordination and training of new employees to ensure required competencies and training documentation are completed. The RN may order medical, pharmacy, and office supplies to manage patient care and will comply with MyMichigan Health policies and procedures, OSHA guidelines, CLIA regulations, and other applicable regulatory agencies. The role may include other practice duties (occupational health follow-ups, administrative tasks, and office duties) as needed. Responsibilities may vary slightly depending on the practice; the immediate supervisor will clarify expectations. Responsibilities
50% - Greets patients and/or family, takes vital signs, reviews medical, social, surgical and medication history, and allergy information. Prepares patients for examination, performs procedures per standing orders, completes in-office labs (urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep screens, EKGs, TB testing, pulmonary function testing per protocol) and reports results to the provider. Communicates testing procedures and follow-up care clearly to patients. 20% - Accurately completes and documents all patient information in the medical record according to current guidelines. 10% - Triages emergency patients, assesses condition, stabilizes as needed, directs other staff in emergencies, administers immediate treatment per protocol, and notifies the physician of patient status. 10% - Administers medications as prescribed by the provider and assists the provider with examinations, procedures, and splinting. 10% - Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and prepares rooms after procedures, disposes of contaminated supplies, and sterilizes instruments. Assess and implement clinical protocols for patient care in emergency situations; provide complete patient assessments within the scope of practice. Demonstrate competency to assist with procedures such as venipuncture, orthopedic casting lab splinting, EKG, PFT, audiometry, vision testing, dressing changes, respirator fit testing, drug and alcohol testing as required by the practice. Maintain knowledge of OSHA respirator fit testing requirements and mask types. Complete daily tasks in a timely manner (referrals, EMR tasks, patient result notifications, prior authorizations, and communications with relevant parties). Place and receive calls to previously seen patients to evaluate progress and communicate test results. Comply with company protocols, departmental policies, MIOSHA/CLIA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements. Perform CLIA testing and maintain quality control logs. Sterilize equipment according to policy and procedure. Participate in continuous quality improvement projects and demonstrate adherence to safety and hygiene standards. Maintain a clean, sterile and safe environment; may travel to other urgent care clinics or occupational health sites as needed. Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Order medical, pharmacy, and office supplies as needed. Communicate clearly and professionally; adapt to changing environments and shifts (including day, evening, and weekends up to 13 hours per day). RN: Registered Nurse (required). Minimum one year of nursing experience; urgent care or Emergency Department experience preferred. BLS: Basic Life Support (required within 3 months of hire or transfer). TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (required within 6 months of hire or transfer; those hired on or before 12/31/2023 have 24 months to complete). Education
Education: Associate Degree Experience, Training and Skills
A minimum of one year of nursing experience; urgent care or ED experience preferred. Professional Drug Collector certification within 6 months of hire or transfer. Breath Alcohol certification within 6 months of hire or transfer. Ability to lead and educate patients and colleagues; strong leadership, organizational, communication and time-management skills. Working knowledge of Lawson, EMR, and Practice Management programs or equivalent software. Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
Exposure to stressful situations and trauma; able to wear PPE including latex or appropriate substitutes. Ability to move about the facility and perform essential job functions. Adequate vision and hearing with or without assistive devices. Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods; frequent postural changes may be required. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens; follow MIOSHA guidelines and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance. Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. Physical Demand Level: Medium. Occasional lifting 21-50 lbs; frequent lifting up to 20 lbs; constant handling and movement as part of the workday.
