Power Electronics Design Engineer
About Us:
OptiGrid believes in electrification beyond the electrical grid; a world where everyone has access to electric vehicles (EV) fast charging when and where they need it. We build battery-based energy storage systems that provide ultrafast charging for EVs and clean, affordable, resilient power alternatives for site hosts. If you are driven to learn and grow and seek a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make changes in the transportation and energy market, now is the time to join a team that is revolutionizing how power is delivered and utilized.
At OptiGrid, we are fundamentally changing the way energy is distributed to electric vehicles, and we are continuing to evolve with a full suite of decentralized energy services accelerating sustainable electrification. To meet our ambitious goals, we are growing rapidly and looking for people who want to make an impact and are willing to challenge the status quo. If you are resilient, think outside the box, and like finding solutions to tough problems, please apply to join our amazing team of innovators, enthusiasts, and change-makers.
Position Overview: As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture, design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of power conversion systems including onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, traction inverters, and motor controllers. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in hardware, software, mechanical, and thermal engineering.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop and test high-power DC-DC converters, inverters, and chargers for EV applications (typically 400V–1000V systems).
Perform circuit simulations (SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink) for converter topologies and industrial control systems.
Create detailed schematics and PCB layouts for multilayer boards with high-voltage isolation and EMI/EMC compliance requirements.
Develop control strategies for power converters (e.g., current-mode control, digital control loops).
Validate designs through bench and field testing, thermal analysis.
Support manufacturing, testing, and debugging through the full product lifecycle.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
3+ years of hands-on experience designing high voltage/high current electronic power systems (preferably in automotive or industrial sectors).
Strong understanding of power conversion topologies (e.g., buck, boost, LLC, phase-shifted full bridge).
Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN) and high-frequency magnetics.
Proficiency in simulation and design tools: LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium/Eagle/OrCAD.
Familiarity with EMI/EMC design and mitigation techniques.
Benefits:
