The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a professional to conduct investigations, inspections, and evaluations of installations employing radiation emitting equipment and materials.
Responsibilities include:
Conducting investigations, inspections, and evaluations of installations employing radiation emitting equipment and materials
Ensuring the calibration and preventative maintenance of instrumentation for radiation detection and measurement
Advising and requiring corrective action to control radiation hazards and prevent recurrence
Investigating and inspecting the use of radiation sources and radiation producing devices in medical, industrial, educational, and research facilities
Collaborating with radiation office staff to surveil, monitor, and control X-ray equipment and radiation hazards
Responding to and evaluating emergency incidents involving radioactive spills, losses, and suspected or accidental radiation exposure
Determining compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and license requirements, and issuing citations and requiring corrective action as necessary
Requirements include:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in physics, engineering, or a related field
Three years of professional experience in the field of radiological health, excluding radiation monitoring and surveys
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed
Desirable qualifications include additional years of professional experience in radiological health and a valid certificate in diagnostic or therapeutic radiologic technology or nuclear medicine technology.
