Mechanical Design Engineer – Automotive & Specialty Vehicles

Overview The Vehicle Engineer leads the design and development of new wheelchair‑accessible vehicles from concept to launch. Responsibilities include engineering all vehicle systems, ensuring proper integration, meeting cost/quality targets, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and compliant products.
Key Responsibilities
Design and engineer new vehicle conversions in CAD (Inventor).
Develop mechanisms, suspensions, structures, and closures (doors/liftgates).
Plan procurement, assembly, and validation to meet APQP project timelines.
Ensure designs meet budget, quality, and performance objectives.
Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Portfolio teams.
Recommend cost‑effective, standardized design solutions.
Build and test prototypes; continuously improve designs.
Participate in design reviews and apply best engineering practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Experience taking products from concept to launch (multiple complex products preferred).
Hands‑on 3D product design experience.
Strong knowledge of mechanism/structural design, GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, and vehicle integration.
Proficiency with DFMEA, root cause analysis, and APQP.
Background in automotive, transportation, or specialty vehicle industries.
Familiarity with fuel, exhaust, cooling, and braking systems.
Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, MS Office; prototype fabrication/welding a plus.
Strong communication, problem‑solving, and project leadership abilities.
