Senior Utilities Electrical Specialist

Under immediate supervision, performs highly skilled electrical work in the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of all electrical equipment and controls of the Utilities Division.
Schedules, assigns, supervises and participates in the repair of electrical equipment and AC, DC control systems, including variable speed controls, solid state electronic devices, microwave components, telemetering devices and all types of motor starters
Acts as lead worker and provides technical assistance to subordinate staff; help establish a course of action and schedule for work completion
Monitors and evaluates electrical installations and repair by outside contractors
Makes decisions with regards to updating electrical equipment, including circuits, breakers, motors and starters; trouble shoots, inspects and develops maintenance and preventive maintenance schedules for electrical equipment
Maintains and services variable speed pump control systems (Solid State)
Coordinates the scheduling of electrical maintenance and repair with appropriate division and plant personnel
Requisitions orders and maintains an adequate supply of electrical and electronic parts and devices
Prepares routine and special reports
Assists in staff development and training
Troubleshoots mechanical issues causing electrical problems; makes recommendations for repairs or improvements
Performs difficult and highly skilled electrical work at all plants, lift stations and booster stations
Obtains quotes and procures necessary materials; maintains needed inventory to keep plants operational; reconciles monthly credit card
Diagnoses and repairs motor control systems; changes control logic circuitry; designs level control systems; draws schematics
Performs pole lighting diagnosis and repair; repairs internal/external plant lighting; repairs and maintains emergency life safety lighting systems
Works with outside contractors on thermal imaging, battery inspections and contract work
Performs routine electrical maintenance
Exercises responsibility for emergency calls at night, weekends, and holidays
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and three years of experience as a journeyman electrician.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of installation, maintenance and repair of sophisticated electrical systems and equipment; ability to use test equipment such as recording ammeters, voltage testers, induction relay checkers, etc; ability to perform complex operations such as wiring, testing, analyzing and troubleshooting from schematic diagrams or instruction manuals; ability to diagnose electro-mechanical trouble in generators, motors, etc.; ability to select and specify electrical items to be ordered from manufacturers' manuals; ability to get along well with fellow employees and supervisors.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and lifting, frequently requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to the risk of electrical shock, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires exposure to extreme cold (non-weather); work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
